Vibrio cholerae is a comma-shaped, Gram-negative bacterium. It is the causative agent of cholera in humans, an infection that affects the upper small intestine. Transmission occurs primarily through contaminated water or food.
Individuals infected with cholera experience intense watery diarrhea and vomiting, caused by the cholera toxin produced by the bacteria. Many cases are potentially fatal, as diarrhea and vomiting can cause rapid dehydration and severe electrolyte loss. Occasional outbreaks and pandemics caused by Vibrio cholerae show that cholera remains a global threat to public health.
The BioPerfectus Vibrio cholerae Real-Time PCR Kit is an in vitro diagnostic test, based on real-time PCR technology, intended for the detection of Vibrio cholerae O1, Vibrio cholerae O139, and total Vibrio cholerae DNA. Samples can be obtained from human feces.
Multiplex PCR: Detects and differentiates Vibrio cholerae O1, O139, and total
Reliable: Limit of detection of 5 copies/reaction ($10^3$ copies/mL) with internal control
Efficient: 62 minutes to process 96 samples
User-friendly: Automatic interpretation of results with the STC real-time PCR system
