Introduction

Toscana virus is an arbovirus transmitted by sandflies in Mediterranean countries. Toscana virus infection occurs most frequently during warm seasons, although there are significant variations in exposure risk, with seroprevalence rates ranging from less than 1% to 45% in human populations.

In southwestern Europe, Toscana virus infection is one of the most frequent causes of aseptic meningitis, alongside enteroviruses and herpesviruses. Mortality is rare, but the neuroinvasive form is generally associated with encephalitis.

Due to the lack of specificity in clinical symptoms, virological diagnosis is necessary and depends on molecular detection of viral RNA combined with serology.

The Bioperfectus Toscana Virus Real-Time PCR Kit is an in vitro diagnostic test, based on real-time PCR technology, intended for the detection of Toscana virus RNA. Samples can be obtained from human serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).
