Introduction

Salmonella is a type of Gram-negative intestinal bacterium widely distributed in nature, capable of causing diseases in both humans and animals, representing a significant sanitary impact. The bacterium has 5 subgenera and presents complex serotypes—more than 2,200 have already been identified. Common serotypes, such as Salmonella typhimurium, Salmonella choleraesuis, and Salmonella enteritidis, can cause gastroenteritis, typhoid fever, septicemia, and other symptoms.

Shigella is a group of highly infectious Gram-negative intestinal pathogens known as dysentery bacilli. Diarrheal diseases caused by Shigella flexneri are the most common in developing countries.

The BioPerfectus Salmonella & Shigella Real-Time PCR Kit is intended for the in vitro qualitative detection of Salmonella and Shigella nucleic acids in human fecal samples.
