Introduction

Rift Valley Fever (RVF) belongs to the Phlebovirus genus. It is a viral zoonosis that primarily affects animals but can also infect humans. RVF outbreaks can cause major social impacts, including significant economic losses and trade reductions. The disease most commonly affects livestock, causing severe illness and abortions in domestic animals, which represent a major source of income for many populations.

Most human infections occur through direct or indirect contact with the blood or organs of infected animals. The incubation period for RVF ranges from 2 to 6 days. Infected individuals may show no detectable symptoms or may develop a mild form of the disease, characterized by a sudden-onset flu-like febrile syndrome, with fever, muscle pain, joint pain, and headache.

The virus can be detected in the blood during the acute phase of the illness and in post-mortem tissues through viral isolation in cell culture and molecular techniques.

The BioPerfectus Rift Valley Fever Virus Real Time PCR Kit is an in vitro diagnostic test, based on real-time PCR technology, intended for the detection of Rift Valley Fever virus RNA. Samples can be obtained from human whole blood and serum.
