Introduction
Monkeypox is caused by infection with the monkeypox virus, which belongs to the Orthopoxvirus genus of the Poxviridae family. The Orthopoxvirus genus also includes variola virus (which causes smallpox), vaccinia virus (used in the smallpox vaccine), and cowpox virus. In humans, monkeypox symptoms are similar to those of smallpox, but generally milder.
The BioPerfectus Monkeypox / Varicella-zoster / Variola Virus Real Time PCR Kit is an in vitro diagnostic test based on real-time PCR technology. Utilizing a constitutive gene (RNase P) as an internal control (IC), the kit employs specific primers and probes designed based on the F3L gene for Monkeypox virus, the ORF38 gene for Varicella-zoster virus, and the B9R/B10R genes for Variola virus. Samples can be obtained from human tonsillar swabs, nasopharyngeal swabs, serum, whole blood, lesion exudate, and crust.
