Marburg virus is an RNA virus belonging to the Filoviridae family. Marburg Hemorrhagic Fever is a natural epidemic infection transmitted by infected patients and animals. The disease shows no clear seasonality and occurs primarily in family, hospital, and community outbreaks.
Symptoms may include fever, headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, shock, hemorrhages, and multiple organ failure syndromes. The disease is highly contagious, with rapid and severe progression; the mortality rate can reach up to 90%. To date, the Marburg virus is considered one of the deadliest known viruses.
Laboratory diagnostic methods include viral isolation and nucleic acid detection tests.
The BioPerfectus Marburg Virus Real-Time PCR Kit is an in vitro diagnostic test, based on real-time PCR technology, intended for the detection of Marburg virus RNA. Samples can be obtained from human blood, serum, feces, respiratory fluids, digestive system samples, and tissues.
