Influenza is an acute respiratory disease caused by influenza viruses and transmitted primarily through airborne droplets. Influenza viruses are classified into types A, B, and C based on differences in nucleoprotein antigenicity.
Influenza B virus is a single-stranded RNA virus belonging to the Orthomyxoviridae family. It can be classified into the Victoria and Yamagata lineages, according to antigenic differences and genetic characteristics. It is the causative agent of influenza B, characterized by sudden onset, chills, and fever that can reach 39 °C to 40 °C — or even higher — within a few hours or up to 24 hours. It can also cause headache, body aches, fatigue, and loss of appetite. Respiratory symptoms tend to be mild, such as dry throat, sore throat, and dry cough; diarrhea may also occur.
The BioPerfectus Influenza B Virus (Victoria & Yamagata Lineages) Real-Time PCR Kit is intended for the qualitative detection of influenza B virus nucleic acids from the Victoria and Yamagata lineages in human throat swab samples.
