Introduction

Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) is an acute infectious disease caused by enteroviruses, most commonly occurring in preschool-aged children, especially those under three years old. Transmission occurs primarily through close contact with infected or subclinically infected individuals, entering the body through the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts.

Common symptoms include macules, papules, and vesicles on the hands, feet, and mouth. A small proportion of patients may develop serious complications such as meningitis, encephalitis, encephalomyelitis, pulmonary edema, and circulatory disorders. The primary causative agents are CoxA16 and EV71; cases of brainstem encephalitis and neurogenic pulmonary edema are among the leading causes of death.

The BioPerfectus Enterovirus Real-Time PCR Kit is intended for the qualitative detection of nucleic acids from Enterovirus 71 (EV71), Coxsackievirus A9, A16, B2, and B5 (CoxA9, CoxA16, CoxB2, and CoxB5), and Echovirus 30 (Echo30) in human throat swabs.
