Introduction

Human adenoviruses (HAds) are classified into 47 serotypes and six subgenera (A–F), each with different tropisms. In recent years, adenovirus types 40 (Ad40) and 41 (Ad41), belonging to subgenus F, have been identified as causative agents of enteric infections, being the second leading cause of infantile gastroenteritis—behind only rotaviruses.

Enteric adenovirus infection occurs worldwide and is associated with 4–17% of diarrhea cases in children. Serotypes Ad40 and Ad41 primarily affect children under 2 years of age and occur year-round. Clinical symptoms include watery diarrhea accompanied by vomiting, low-grade fever, and mild dehydration. A striking feature of enteric adenovirus infections is prolonged diarrhea, with an average duration of 8.6 days for Ad40 and 12.2 days for Ad41.

The BioPerfectus Enteric Adenovirus Real-Time PCR Kit is an in vitro diagnostic test, based on real-time PCR, for the detection of Enteric Adenovirus DNA. Samples can be obtained from human feces. The kit uses specific primers and probes designed based on the hexon gene regions of enteric adenoviruses. In addition, it includes a constitutive gene (RNase P) as an internal control to verify the quality of nucleic acid collection and extraction.
