Introduction

Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) is an acute infectious disease caused by enteroviruses. It is most common in preschool-aged children, especially those under three years old. Transmission occurs primarily through close contact with infected or subclinically infected individuals, entering the body through the respiratory or gastrointestinal tracts.

Common symptoms include macules, papules, and herpetic lesions on the hands, feet, and mouth. A small proportion of patients may develop meningitis, encephalitis, encephalomyelitis, pulmonary edema, and circulatory disorders. CoxA16 and EV71 are the primary causative agents of HFMD, and complications such as brainstem encephalitis and neurogenic pulmonary edema are the leading causes of death.

The CoxA16 & EV71 Real-Time PCR Kit is intended for the in vitro qualitative detection of Coxsackievirus A16 (CoxA16) and Enterovirus 71 (EV71) RNA, obtained from human throat swab samples.

Features

  • Superior Performance: Provides highly accurate results

  • Child-friendly: Uses throat swab samples for easier collection in children

  • Multiplex PCR: Detects the main viruses related to HFMD in a single reaction

  • Smart: Automatic interpretation of results with the STC Real-Time PCR System
