Introduction

Chlamydia trachomatis (C. trachomatis) is the bacterium responsible for chlamydia, which can manifest in various forms, including:

• trachoma,

• lymphogranuloma venereum,

• non-gonococcal urethritis,

• cervicitis,

• salpingitis,

• pelvic inflammatory disease.

Chlamydia is a genus of pathogenic bacteria that are obligate intracellular parasites and include three human biovars. There are more than 15 serovariants of C. trachomatis:

• A, B, Ba, and C: related to ocular infections;

• L1, L2, and L3: cause lymphogranuloma venereum;

• D to K: cause non-gonococcal urethritis.

The BioPerfectus Chlamydia Trachomatis Real-Time PCR Kit is an in vitro diagnostic test based on real-time PCR technology for the detection of C. trachomatis nucleic acids in clinical samples obtained by male urethral swabs or female cervical swabs. Specific primers and probes are designed based on exclusive bacterial gene regions, in addition to the human β-globin gene as an internal control.
