Introduction

Brucellosis, also known as Mediterranean fever, Malta fever, or undulant fever, is colloquially referred to as “lazy man’s disease.” It is a bacterial disease caused by different species of Brucella, which primarily infect cattle, swine, goats, sheep, and dogs. Humans typically acquire the disease through direct contact with infected animals, the ingestion of contaminated animal products, or the inhalation of aerosols containing the infectious agent.

Brucellosis is found globally and is a reportable disease in most countries. It affects people of all ages and both sexes. In the general population, most cases are caused by the consumption of raw milk or its derivatives, such as fresh cheeses, with a large portion originating from sheep and goat products. The disease is also considered an occupational hazard for people working in the livestock sector.

The Brucella Real Time PCR Kit utilizes real-time fluorescence PCR technology and is equipped with primers and probes targeting specific Brucella genes. Samples can be obtained from human serum and peripheral blood.
