Introduction
Avian influenza A(H7N9) is a subtype of influenza virus previously detected in birds. This specific A(H7N9) virus had not been observed before in either animals or humans until it was identified in March 2013 in China, where it caused severe respiratory disease in more than 400 people, resulting in over 100 deaths.

Animal influenza viruses are distinct from human seasonal influenza viruses and do not transmit easily between people. However, zoonotic influenza viruses—animal influenza viruses that can occasionally infect humans through direct or indirect contact—can cause illnesses in humans ranging from mild conditions to death. Birds are the natural hosts for avian influenza viruses.

The BioPerfectus Avian Influenza Virus Subtype H7N9 Real Time PCR Kit is an in vitro diagnostic test, based on real-time PCR technology, intended for the detection of influenza virus subtype H7N9 RNA. Samples can be obtained from human throat swabs and sputum.
