Introduction

In October 2020, the SARS-CoV-2 subtype B.1.617 emerged in India, causing an exponential surge in COVID-19 cases in the country. This lineage was later divided into three subgroups: B.1.617.1, B.1.617.2, and B.1.617.3. The B.1.617.2 variant (known as the Delta variant) was classified by the WHO as a Variant of Concern (VOC) due to a significant increase in its infectivity.

The mutations L452R and E484Q, combined with P681R at the furin cleavage site, are associated with:

  • Higher affinity for the ACE2 receptor

  • Increased S1–S2 cleavage rate

  • Enhanced transmissibility

  • Ability to escape neutralization by certain monoclonal antibodies

The combined detection of these three mutations assists in the identification of the B.1.617.2 variant

This product is intended for the detection of L452R, E484Q, and P681R mutations in the SARS-CoV-2 S gene for research purposes.

Our R&D team continuously monitors reported variants worldwide and develops assays to detect emerging mutations related to increased infectivity, immune escape, vaccine efficacy, and drug therapies. Assays for these additional mutations can be made available upon request.

Features

Comprehensive: Get three types of information in a single test:

  1. Whether the sample corresponds to the Delta B.1.617.2 variant,

  2. Whether the sample corresponds to the B.1.617 lineage,

  3. Whether the sample is positive for SARS-CoV-2.

Other advantages:

  • Multiplex: Qualitative detection of five targets (ORF1a/b, L452R, E484Q, P681R, and internal control) simultaneously.

  • Smart: Automated result interpretation with STC-96A and STC-96A Plus*.

  • Efficient: Reliable detection of 46 samples in 72 minutes.

  • Reliable: Internal control ensures reliability throughout the entire process.

  • Versatile: Semi-automatic interpretation tool available for other real-time PCR instruments.
