Introduction

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are a group of contagious diseases caused by different organisms — bacteria, viruses, and parasites — transmitted primarily through unprotected sexual contact.

Neisseria gonorrhoeae (N. gonorrhoeae) is an oval or coffee-bean-shaped Gram-negative bacterium, measuring about 0.6–0.8 μm in length and 0.5 μm in width. It is the primary pathogen responsible for gonorrhea.

Gonorrhea is the second most common bacterial STD. It can cause infections in the genitals, rectum, and throat. In many cases, infected individuals may not show signs or symptoms. When left undiagnosed or untreated, gonorrhea can lead to serious complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and infertility.

The BioPerfectus Neisseria Gonorrhoeae Real-Time PCR Kit is an in vitro diagnostic test based on real-time PCR technology, designed for the qualitative detection of N. gonorrhoeae in clinical samples of male urethral swabs, female cervical swabs, or urine.

This product provides molecular evidence to aid in the diagnosis of NG infection and for primary screening in populations at risk for STDs.
