Leishmaniasis is a parasitic disease found in parts of the tropics, subtropics, and southern Europe. It is classified as a neglected tropical disease (NTD).
Leishmaniasis is caused by infection with Leishmania parasites, which are spread by the bite of phlebotomine sandflies. There are several different forms of leishmaniasis in people. The most common forms are:
Cutaneous leishmaniasis, which causes skin sores
Visceral leishmaniasis, which affects several internal organs (usually spleen, liver, and bone marrow)
The disease affects some of the poorest people on earth and is associated with malnutrition, population displacement, poor housing, a weak immune system, and lack of financial resources. An estimated 700,000 to 1 million new cases occur annually.
The BioPerfectus Leishmania Real-Time PCR Kit is an in vitro diagnostic test, based on real-time PCR technology, intended for the detection of Leishmania nucleic acids. Samples can be obtained from human whole blood or bone marrow biopsy.
No cross-reactivity with other pathogens
Internal control ensures the reliability of the entire process
