Sapovirus is a distinct genus within the Caliciviridae family and is responsible for sporadic cases and outbreaks of gastroenteritis in humans worldwide. Under an electron microscope, Sapovirus exhibits a typical “Star of David” configuration. The prototype sapovirus is the Sapporo virus (Hu/SaV/Sapporo virus/1977/JP). Sapoviruses are divided into 5 genogroups, of which only genogroups I, II, IV, and V are known to infect humans.
The BioPerfectus Sapovirus Real-Time PCR Kit is an in vitro diagnostic test based on real-time PCR for the detection of Sapovirus RNA. Samples can be obtained from human feces.
