Introduction
Monkeypox virus is a virus transmitted from animals to humans. It belongs to the Orthopoxvirus genus of the Poxviridae family, which includes other viral species that infect mammals.
Animal-to-human (zoonotic) transmission can occur through direct contact with blood, body fluids, or skin or mucosal lesions of infected animals. Human-to-human transmission can happen through close contact with respiratory secretions, skin lesions of infected persons, or recently contaminated objects.
The incubation period for monkeypox can range from 5 to 21 days, usually starting with fever, headache, muscle aches, and fatigue.
The Bioperfectus Monkeypox Virus and Orthopoxvirus Real-Time PCR Kit is based on real-time PCR technology. Specific primers and probes are developed based on the F3L gene regions of the monkeypox virus and the E9L gene of the Orthopoxvirus. The kit allows for the qualitative detection and differentiation of monkeypox virus DNA and Orthopoxvirus DNA, utilizing a constitutive gene (RNase P) as an internal control (IC). Samples can be obtained from human tonsillar swabs, nasopharyngeal swabs, serum, whole blood, lesion exudate, and crusts.
