Introduction

Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS) is a severe and sometimes fatal respiratory disease in humans, caused by Sin Nombre virus of the Bunyaviridae family. The host of the Sin Nombre virus is the deer mouse (Peromyscus maniculatus). Initial symptoms include fatigue, fever, and muscle aches, especially in the large muscle groups—thighs, hips, back, and sometimes shoulders. Headache, dizziness, chills, and abdominal problems such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain may also occur.

The BioPerfectus Sin Nombre Virus Real Time PCR Kit is an in vitro diagnostic test, based on real-time PCR technology, intended for the detection of HPS-associated Sin Nombre virus RNA. Samples can be obtained from human serum.
