Rabies virus belongs to the Mononegavirales order, which consists of viruses with a non-segmented, negative-sense, single-stranded RNA genome. It is a vaccine-preventable zoonotic viral disease that affects the central nervous system. Once clinical symptoms appear, rabies is virtually 100% fatal.
Dogs are the main source of human rabies deaths, accounting for up to 99% of transmissions to humans. Rabies can be prevented through dog vaccination and bite prevention. Transmission to people and animals occurs through saliva, usually via bites, scratches, or direct contact with mucosa (e.g., eyes, mouth, or open wounds). Children between 5 and 14 years old are among the most frequent victims. Globally, rabies causes an estimated cost of US$ 8.6 billion per year.
The BioPerfectus Rabies Virus Real Time PCR Kit is an in vitro diagnostic test, based on real-time PCR technology, intended for the detection of Rabies virus RNA. Samples can be obtained from human saliva.
Quality Control: internal control ensures the reliability of the entire process
No cross-reactivity with other viruses showing similar symptoms
