Nipah virus (NiV) belongs to the Paramyxoviridae family, genus Henipavirus. It is a zoonotic virus that can also be transmitted through contaminated food or directly between people.
Human infections range from asymptomatic cases to acute respiratory infection (mild or severe) and fatal encephalitis. The incubation period (interval from infection to the onset of symptoms) is estimated to be between 4 and 14 days; however, incubation periods of up to 45 days have been reported. The case fatality rate is estimated to be between 40% and 75%.
Currently, there is no treatment or vaccine available for either humans or animals. Nipah virus infection can be diagnosed based on clinical history during the acute and convalescent phases of the disease. The primary tests used are real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) from bodily fluids and antibody detection by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
The BioPerfectus Nipah Virus Real Time PCR Kit is an in vitro diagnostic test, based on real-time PCR technology, intended for the detection of Nipah virus RNA. Samples can be obtained from human serum, plasma, whole blood, and urine.
Versatile: compatible with multiple sample types.
No cross-reactivity with other viruses causing similar symptoms
Internal control ensures the reliability of the entire process
Compatibility: Suitable for leading real-time PCR instruments
